New Year’s Eve Group Ride

Dec 30th, 2011 | Categories: News

We thought it would be a lovely way to close out the year – shut down a bit early and go for a nice bike ride. It’ll be a good way for anyone to close out the final kilometres on their Festive500 challenge (I know I didn’t make it…), and a good excuse to get out of the house on a beautiful, sunny, winter day.

So, the store will close at 1:00 pm.

We’ll roll out soon afterward.

See you then.

Hand-built bicycles from Zimbabwe

Dec 5th, 2011 | Categories: News

Well, it’s Christmastime, and I still feel too busy to write anything for the blog. Sorry about that. Anyway, I’ve decided not to go to bed early tonight, in favour of accomplishing something long overdue.

I’ve been meaning to tell you about our Christmas Charity Tree for 2011. It’s the one located in our corner window (I’ll tell you about the other tree in a minute or two), covered with little bicycles made of wire and beads. These are hand-built bicycles, each one as unique as the proverbial snowflake, each one crafted by the hand of a Zimbabwean artisan. You see, we’re selling these little bicycle ornaments to raise funds for Hear Africa, an organization that works to improve the social and economic conditions of the citizens of Zimbabwe.

Their main focus of development is in sustainable agriculture, humanitarian aid, childhood education, and orphan care. While the organization has nothing particular to do with bicycles (other than these great little ornaments), we love what they do and we’re proud to support them however we can.

So, stop by and pick up a hand-built bicycle for your Christmas tree at home; get some for your mother, and your sister, and your uncle Ned while you’re at it. For $5.00/ea, they make a great stocking stuffer and they support a nation that could really use our help.

Wishes & Wonder Contest

While you’re in the store, you’ll probably notice our other lovely Christmasy wintery window display (Thank you Shirley, Cheryl, and Janice, for putting it together). This one is, perhaps, a little more self-indulgent, although it doesn’t have to be. It’s the annual Wishes & Wonder Contest display. Basically, all the businesses in Fort Langley have come together to create a giant prize package, that one lucky shopper will win. You can enter at any participating store, including Fort Langley Cyclery. The draw will take place on December 19, just in time for you to take your winnings, sort through it all, and maybe slip a few more special gifts under some lucky Christmas trees.

I probably won’t write again this month, so I’ll say it a bit early: Merry Christmas!

September Sale – Sweet, Right?

Aug 31st, 2011 | Categories: News, Products

So, we’ve been way too busy to keep up with the blog-writing this summer, but we did have just enough time to plan out a sweet sale for September. People are going back to school or getting back into the swing of things at work, and trying to find a way to include some fitness into their ridiculously busy schedules. We’re encouraging these people to ditch their cars and get a bike instead. Why pay for a gym membership when you can exercise on your way to work, right?

Anyway, here’s the deal: When you purchase a bike in the month of September we will give you money – up to $200 – to spend on dressing up yourself and your bike for the season. So you can buy a Felt QX75, like this one -

and then put fenders and a light on it, or perhaps a pump, or maybe you need a helmet, or a bike rack to get it home. Sweet right?

Basically, for whichever bike you purchase, we’ll give you 10% back, up to $200, to spend on the other things you need to get rolling. If you buy an Opus Classico, we give you an extra $55 to spend on other stuff. If you’re thinking about a new road bike, you could buy a beautiful LOOK 586 -

and get a sweet pair of shoes from Diadora or Pearl Izumi, or maybe one of the much-coveted Fort Langley Cyclery jerseys -

The great thing is, we’ll give you the same deal for sale-priced bikes or new bikes. That means you could buy a 2010 Opus Allegro (regular price $2800, on sale for $2100) and still get $200 for accessories and apparel. That’s a savings of $900 – sweet, right?
Whatever you might need, we’ve got it here – the perfect bike and the best gear to get kitted out. The sale starts tomorrow. Sweet, right? Yah, sweet. See you then.
